La Batucada - 2019 Ongoing/Work in Process - Photography & Video

La Batucada is a personal project that explores the reasons for 20 women to meet every Wednesday evening in a neighborhood school in Poblenou to learn how to play the batucada, a powerful afro-brazilian percussion music. This type of music has more traditionally been played by men. The age of these women ranges between 17 and 60 years of age and they come from many different walks of life. They are not professionals and this is a hobby however they do participate proudly in local neighborhood parades or marches.
